At Physicians Hearing Center, we’ve been providing customized hearing solutions to patients in the Dothan, Alabama community since 1977.

Hearing aids vary by style, and some are best suited for a specific type and severity of hearing loss. We take our time to get to know you, and after thorough testing, we’ll make a recommendation about the make, model and style of hearing aid that will best match your hearing and lifestyle needs.

All of the hearing aids on the market today consist of the same basic components to amplify sound and improve your ability to hear. However, they differ in style, which is categorized by size and placement of the hearing aid.

Completely-in-the-canal (CIC)
The smallest hearing aid style, it’s molded to fit inside your ear and is a discreet option for those with mild to moderate hearing loss. Because the hearing aids are smaller, the batteries are also smaller which means they have a shorter life. This style doesn’t have the manual features that other larger devices have (ex: manual volume control or directional microphones).

In-the-canal (ITC)

itcThis hearing aid style is custom molded to fit within your ear, but not as deeply as the CIC styles. They’re ideal for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss and are more discreet than traditional hearing aid styles. Some ITC hearing aids offer additional features and capabilities such as Bluetooth connectivity. However, they may not work with smaller ears, and manual adjustments may be challenging due to the size of the hearing aid.

 In-the-Ear style hearing aids (ITE)

ITE hearing aids are designed to fit in the "bowl" of the ear. The lightweight and compact size makes this style comfortable and easy to manage. This hearing aid has more room for a larger battery, which offers more power and a longer life. It’s also  available with more features and capabilities than other styles.

Receiver-In-The-Ear (RITE)

The RITE hearing aid style is similar to conventional BTE devices, but these are much smaller, and more discreet than the BTE style. A very small tube leads to the ear canal making this option much more cosmetically appealing while offering superior sound quality.

 Behind-the-ear (BTE)

bteThis hearing aids’ main component are inside a plastic case that rests behind your ear, with a clear tube connecting to an earpiece. This style can be used by people of all ages and most ranges and severities of hearing loss. They provide the most amplification of all hearing aid styles and are sturdy, durable and easy-to-use. However, they are not as discreet as other styles.
